Book design
The design of the book features custom typography on the cover – inspired by Russian Constructivism – developed specifically for this project. The overall grid and layout explore the graphic tension between different elements such as titles, quotes, footnotes and plain text.
The book also consists of a notebook of images, describing the collective exhibition “Victory Over the Sun — From the black square to loophole” held at the Gallery of the College of the Arts. In the exhibition, curated by António Olaio, different authors, different creative appropriations of space and different artistic mediations problematize the context inaugurated by Malevich's work.
Irina Karasik, Pedro Cabral Santo, Luís Quintais, Ana Rito, António Olaio, Carlos Vidal, Paulo Pires do Vale, Bernardo Pinto de Almeida, Pedro Pousada, Delfim Sardo, Luís António Umbelino and Bruno Gil are the authors of the texts and the overall project is edited by Pedro Pousada, António Olaio and José Maçãs de Carvalho.
